Dollar values (≈ $) on this chart use the current price, 1 ETH = $2,527 (median of Binance, Kraken, Coinbase and Bitfinex, 14:44 UTC), not the price on each day.
What the bins mean
Per-block is one point per block. The index answers at most 100,000 points at a time, so on a long chain this shows the most recent 100,000 blocks and the line under the chart says from where. Day and hour aggregate the same rows and reach back to the genesis block. The small charts are always per day.
